I’ve been trying to get more sleep every night.
Why? Because they don’t call it “Beauty Sleep” for nothin’! Apparently, my sleep deprivation could be contributing to much more than perpetual dark circles under my eyes. Lack of sleep affects your mood, weight, immune system, ability to concentrate, hormonal fluctuations, and of course- your skin!
Did you know that your skin is busy at night, even while you’re at rest? That’s right. This is the time when your skin is in repair mode. “At night, your body’s circadian rhythm naturally lulls into repair mode, which peaks between 1 and 3 A.M.” , according to Tom Mammone, executive director of Research & Development for Clinique. “Skin also heats up and gets thirsty in the middle of the night- it opens up, and larger molecules like peptides and Vitamin C penetrate better.”
Aha! If you ever wondered what the mysterious and wondrous action of our best-selling Nocturne Overnight Mineral Treatment was, there you have it. Many customers wonder how putting a powder on their face at night can have any benefit. It’s just “powder”. But the benefit lies in the active ingredients in the powder and the fact that your skin is busy at night. Did you know that before falling asleep, that your body lowers it’s core temperature by sweating? And it is this perspiration that actually activates the ingredients in Nocturne and makes them available to your skin to absorb when your pores are most receptive. All night long, your body will go in and out of sleep cycles- and you might even wake to find yourself either a little overheated, or a little chilled and just plain clammy. Ick!
So… the golden rule is eight hours of sleep a night. Not just in quantity of sleep, but in quality too! Eight hours of restful, peaceful sleep.
How do you get your peaceful slumber?
