Fantasy Makeup: In the Garden: Dahlia
While today IS Valentine’s Day, I can’t charm you with roses… I must dare to be different and give you something you won’t find so easily, as that is my goal…
Dahlias are architectural flowers with fascinating petal structure and they vary widely in color in size. I may have to feature Dahlias more than once, there are so many!!! One of my favorite Dahlia experiences was when I was in Seattle, and I got to experience giant “Dinner Plate” Dahlias at the Pike Place Market. They are, literally… the size of dinner plates.
The Dahlia above is a gorgeous, romantic specimen… just for you this Valentine’s Day!!! It is an “Aurora’s Kiss” Dahlia.
The rich shades of this lush flower would translate well to the lips, or a dramatic eye.
Mmmm…

Happy Valentine’s Day Girls!!!
xoxo

Kristen, where did you find that picture? Did you take it yourself? It’s perfect!
It is gorgeous, isn’t it! The photo exists in wikipedia. What you see in my blog is just a hyperlink to it. One of the beauties of blogging and sharing info on the internet- you can link to info and pictures so easily. I’m so short on time, so it makes it a snap to do stuff! If you click on the image, it takes you to it’s original home on the internet.
I only dream of having such gorgeous flowers, or even a garden here in the torrid South… we have some flowering trees and bushes and vines, but nothing like the gardens I was able to have up North. It’s just too hot and too many bugs and adverse conditions. Ick!
That’s such a gorgeous flower! Not only are you inspiring us with makeup looks, you’re teaching us about flowers too!
I know practically nothing about flowers, for our wedding I just told the florist to use whatever flowers fit our color scheme and budget, lol! So I also like the descriptions you include with the pictures!
Flowers are one of my very favorite things, so I love sharing anything floral!
I, too, love dahlias! My stepmother-in-law grew several varieties last year and took tons of photos — it was like watching a slideshow of some fancy horticultural magazine when we saw them all — a perfect colorful blast of summer during X-Mas in NY.
There must be something you can grow…I grew up in the South and remember all the wonderful greeness and flowers — honeysuckle and peonies and magnolias…. and violets carpeting the vacant lots in the spring….
Now I’m out west and we don’t get enough rain to support a lot. All the pretty plants are nurtured with stolen water or are imports from South Africa. I admit I’m trying my hand at growing sweetpeas — we have several months before it gets hot and I think that if I keep up with the watering, I’ll be rewarded with some pretty and fragrant flowers. If it doesn’t get too cold where you are, you could probably grow sweetpeas as a winter flower, too.
Beautiful and inspiring, Kristen! Can’t wait for Spring.
