My Marvel-Mini Red Light Therapy just arrived…

2008 January 3

No, it’s not a gadget from one of those “shop in private” sites… It’s the one of the latest at-home skincare devices to advertise similar results as expensive “laser” treatments such as Titan and Thermage… at a fraction of the price. And pain-free.

I learned about the Marvel-Mini about ten months ago in New Beauty magazine. I thought it looked fascinating, but I brushed it off because it was only being sold by Nordstrom, there was just a tiny blurb in New Beauty, and I could find no useful information or reviews about it on the web. I was definitely waiting to see if this little miracle device resurfaced…
And it has. Bliss Spa Online has recently started carrying the Marvel-Mini and because of this, my interest is piqued. I’ve found Bliss to be a reliable source for me… they did, after all- introduce me to my beloved MBT sneakers. And, they carry the Clarisonic skin brush- one of my most coveted skincare tools.

But therein was my difficult situation… I could find NO reviews of the Marvel-Mini anywhere online. And I Googled, seriously. So what does a serious makeup maven such as myself do in this situation? She takes a chance and tests the product and writes the review herself… that’s what!

I’ve purchased the Marvel-Mini Red because I am 37 years old and I have noticed a lot of changes in my skin’s tone and elasticity in the last 5 years. Weight gain/loss from my pregnancy and major stress levels in my life have not favored my skin. I have combated this with topical skincare- most notably Vitamin C- but I feel that my skin could greatly benefit from what the Marvel-Mini advertises (see quotes below). Heck, my skin could greatly benefit from what the Titan and Thermage treatments at the medi-spa down on the corner are advertising as well… but I don’t have an extra $2500 in my pocket right now and I hear that they hurt like snapping rubber-bands for the entire hour it takes to do your face. Ouch!

Hence, I am your perfect guinea pig to try out the Marvel-Mini Red. It costs less than two facials ($225) and quite frankly, if it works, it will be worth every dollar. I’m going to be reviewing the Marvel-Mini Red over the course of the recommended 8 week treatment.

Please note that I am not associated with the company that makes this product in any way, shape or form… I wasn’t asked to review it, nor am I being paid to review it (that would be sweet, however!) . And it’s sitting on my credit card right now until I pay the bill. Now that we’ve cleared that up, Here’s the scoop from the makers of the Marvel-Mini Red:

Red light penetrates into the skin to help promote increased blood flow. This type of light also stimulates fibroblasts within the dermis to produce new collagen, accounting for it’s ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, giving the look and feel of a non-surgical facelift. It’s like getting an injection of your own collagen. Red light can also help to decrease inflammation and thereby lighten the redness associated with rosacea and eczema, while rejuvenating aged or sun-damaged skin.

Light therapy is safe, non-invasive and requires no post treatment down-time. It does not emit and ultraviolet rays, nor does it cause any dryness or discomfort. On the contrary, light therapy stimulates the natural healing process of the skin cells. This home-use skin rejuvenation system mimics the light therapy treatments offered to patients by many medical doctors and medical spas using professional grade light therapy machines. Marvel-Mini is manufactured by Cobble San Francisco, which also developed and manufactures the Marvel 6 professional grade facial rejuvenation system used by many doctors and spas.

My box from Bliss Spa arrived today- a giant blue box! My husband eyed this up, as in “oh no, what did you order NOW” sort of way… ha ha. My Marvel-Mini was very safely packed within scads of bubble pack. You’ll all be getting this recycled in your orders!

Impressive packaging, nice sturdy black box lined in velveteen… ooh la la. The unit itself is extremely lightweight. I’m used to the “heft” of my Clarisonic, so this was a surprise to me. It does not appear to be “cheap”, at all though- and is made of a beautiful white pearlized plastic with smooth buttons and the LED head is obviously high-tech.

One immediate downside is that it is not a chargeable unit- it comes with a power cord, standard two prong. You’ve got to plug this baby in to use it. But it is a nice long cord.

I’ve got to go and read the instructions and figure out exactly what I need to do, but you’ll hear more from me soon about my Marvel-Mini. Probably after my first two treatments… each one is 25 minutes each, so it is 50 minutes a week. I think I can probably fit this in while I watch The Colbert Report!

If you’re finding this entry via search engine and want to keep on top of my reviews of this nifty little gadget, please click on the Marvel Mini tag at the beginning of my post, or enter “Marvel Mini” in the search box… that should bring up my relevant postings from here on out.

Seeing that half of my hair has fallen out from taking Yaz and Yasmin I guess that the least I can do is try to pretty up my skin… :) :)

xoxo

    Cool, Kristen –

Can I make a request? Take a good close-up before pic of your “target” areas, then take a pic immediately after the first treatment, and then once a week after the treatment – then we can all REALLY see what the results are! I’m eagerly awaiting. I’m seriously wanting Isolaz Deep Pore Purification, another light treatment, but will wait until it isn’t brand new, too.

    Kristen,
I am going to be hooked on your blog! I searched in google: Marvel-Mini Rejuvenating Facial Light Therapy Blue. And your blog was the first thing to pop up on the 2nd page. I am really looking forward to hearing about your adventure with this new product. I have been trying to find reviews for the blue light, but if the red light works for you I think I will be comfortable enough to try it out! Thanks so much! YAY!

Wondering if this will work for the over 60 crowd. Any ideas about using it more than the 2 X a day for 30 days? Does it wear out?Why not share it with a friend? Do you know the difference between the green and the red? I truly appreciate your ‘experiment’ because there is no info out there re personal experiences! :(
