Give your old gel eyeliners a second chance…

2008 January 2

Gel eyeliners are amazing!!! But unless you keep them tightly capped at all times and stored in a cool, dark place- you’ll find that they start to dry up a little after about 6-9 months of use. Products with this type of texture can be pesky, despite their awesome results.

This is par for the course with a gel-type product, after all, this type of product is very sensitive to changes in humidity and especially the drier air in the winter.

I’ve got a great tip for all of you to breathe new life into your gel eyeliners… all they need is a little warmth!!!

Keep your gel eyeliner tightly capped and put it into a square tupperware container. Next, get our your hairdryer, and with the setting on high, aim it at your poor little jar of gel eyeliner while it sits in the corner of the tupperware container. Don’t worry, it will stay stuck in the corner. Do this for about 2-3 minutes… but it might take longer depending on the strength of you hairdryer.

Wait a few minutes until the jar cools down and then remove the cap. How does your gel liner look? Has the surface melted, and does it look glossy and lustrous? If so, you’ve done the job.

Gently heating Gel eyeliners, which have a lot of silicone-based ingredients in their suspension- seems to give new life to a formula that is starting to look dry or dull. Call me crazy, but it seems to make my liners brand new again and they perform perfectly.

Proceed carefully and at your own risk- I don’t want anyone getting burned fingers, ok?

xoxo
