Update: Online Product Review System Still Down… May 11, 2008

Posted by Miss K in Website Updates & Upgrades.

The Website Product Review System is still non-functional, just to update everyone.

This is being worked on. Unfortunately, we cannot remove the “rate this product” links from the website or stop the server from sending out emails if you volunteered to rate products.

So I am updating in my blog every few days in hopes that this message gets read, because I am still getting quite a few reviews sent to my inbox but unfortunately, none of these reviews are going through to our server. That is the problem- our admin inbox is receiving the review, but the server is not.

So if you have written a review, please understand that you are not being censored, and your review has not been left out for any reason. The review system simply is not functional at this time.

When the system begins to work again I will make a prominent announcement and let everyone know.

Thank you everyone for your understanding, I know it’s frustrating when things don’t work… this is driving me a little batty as well!

Going Green: Lots of Little Changes… Big Results!!! May 9, 2008

It has been only since my post of April 28th that we’ve taken major steps in our household towards reducing energy use in hopes of reducing our “Carbon Footprint”.

See my post from April 28th,

Green Eyeshadow, and some Green Thoughts for the Day.

I received my energy bill today and I honestly didn’t expect to see major changes… after all it’s only been about a month since replacing regular light bulbs with CFL’s and 2 weeks since we really went all out towards reducing our energy bill.

Well ladies, I am very proud to report that all of our little changes added up into a huge drop in or kilowatt useage!!! Last year in the month of May, we used 3574 KWH. Last month, we used 3949. This May billing cycle? our use dropped to 2653!!!

Our entire family contributed to this change and I am so proud of all of them. We all made small changes to our lifestyles to reduce energy use.

We can all make small changes and reduce the energy use of our homes, one of the greatest contributor’s to our country’s carbon footprint!

Why does this matter? Well, smaller energy bills mean more makeup!!! No, really… you all know what I’m talking about. The environment and the reality of climactic change. It’s something that is important to me and that I choose to use blog space for in hopes that I can affect small change in others, too…

What are some of the things that we did to reduce our kilowatt useage?

installed compact fluorescent bulbs in all high-use lights

reduced temperature on water heater and had water heater serviced

replaced filters on our heat pump, had it serviced and opened up all of the vents in our home for better efficiency.

shorter showers!

turned off lights not in use/used minimal lights needed

Washed all clothes in cold water- no more warm or hot loads.

Wash full loads of dishes at night when power costs less.

Wash larger loads of laundry. One large load costs less to wash than 2 small ones.

There’s more, but that’s all I can remember right now. We can all take baby steps and make a HUGE difference collectively towards living a more efficient, less energy-dependent green lifestyle. And unfortunately, by the looks of gas prices right now, it would be smart to reduce your home energy bill. You may need the extra money to use to fill your gas tank (and a little extra left over for makeup, too of course!!! :)

Gadget Crazy: Testing out Sephora’s new No!No! Hair Removal System May 8, 2008

no!no!

I’ve found a new beauty gadget to review for all of you (and many of you who may read this don’t even know it yet…) My reviews of the Marvel Mini Red pulsed light wand are still some of the most popular posts on my blog (Google Marvel Mini Red, and you’ll see why! :) ), even several months after I posted the reviews. I love beauty gadgets (well, all gadgets, actually!) and I love having a forum in which I can share my results. As a beauty product obsessed introverted makeup maven internet company owner marooned on a small Atlantic barrier island– you, ladies… are on some days my only contact with the outside world!

I’ve been prompted to write this review about my test drive with the NoNo due to some very hairy conversations we were having on the Aromaleigh Aficionadas forum. We all seem to agree that we hate hair and we hate shaving even more, and that laser hair removal is as painful as it is expensive. Or is that as expensive as it is painful??? When I read about the newest method of at-home hair removal, while browsing at Sephora.com, my interest was notably piqued. I vowed I would never endure the agonizing pain of laser hair removal ever again. And NoNo claimed no mess, no cuts, no burns, no noise, no irritation and no pain.

First things first… NoNo is available only at Sephora and I am a customer, not a blogger given product to review. Nope, I’m just a regular person who chose to put a $250 gadget on their credit card despite an almost complete lack of reviews available on the internet. Yes, I searched and searched. I Googled and found very little. So I am going to give you all a little something-something!

I wanted a pink No!No! to match my pink Razr cell phone and my pink iBook shell and my pink Clarisonic and my favorite pink eyeshadow. Sadly, I was too excited to get my greedy little paws on my NoNo to wait for the pink to come back into stock, so I got a black one. You can also opt for blue.

Here’s the facts from Sephora.com:
What it is:
A revolutionary new concept in hair removal, suitable for all hair types and skin colors.

What it does:
Achieve hair density reduction at home, with no mess, no cuts, no burns, and no noise. No!no! is based on an exciting new technology called Thermicon™, which uses the scientific principles of thermal transference to conduct a gentle pulse of heat to the hair. It features a unique innovation: a thermodynamic wire to transmit the heat to the hair. This patented wire and built-in safety mechanisms has allowed for the adaptation of professional hair removal technology into a home use product.

What else you need to know:
With a no!no! treatment there’s no pain, you don’t have to wait for hair to grow long in order to remove it, and there is no skin irritation like in-grown hairs, red pimples, or rashes to cover up. Remember no!no! is a treatment process for hair reduction and not a miracle cure for unwanted hair. Like any professional hair treatment, it takes time and dedication to achieve your desired results. The same holds true for the revolutionary no!no! hair removal system; with all the right moves, stubble-free, super smooth skin will be yours. Be sure to follow the directions closely for the safest, most effective results.

no!no! is not a razor:
Using no!no! in conjunction with the buffer will remove the majority of hair, but not all. For smoothest results, especially in the first few weeks of your hair reduction program, use a razor along with no!no! for a clean shave. Use the buffer to remove residue and maximize smoothness, then shower or bathe and follow with body moisturizer.

Ok, we’ve gotten all of the important details out of the way. No!No! (or should I say NoNo?) is not a miracle worker, it’s a process. And I’ve been NoNo-ing about 3 days a week for the last six weeks. The truth is, that no hair removal method provides instant results. Laser Hair removal provides pretty permanent results, but only after about 6-8 cycles. In between those cycles, hair does grow back and needs to be ‘tended to.. and waxing? That’s totally out of the picture. I got my legs waxed once and thought the process to be thoroughly illogical. You have to let your hair grow back to a certain length to get it waxed, so what’s the point? Besides, it’s so messy and the anticipation-factor is unseemly.

And speaking of anticipation factors… in my next blog post about the No!No! we will open up the box together, I’ll tell you all about my initial reaction, and how I thought I was electrocuting myself with the first pass of the No!No! on my leg. Is this kooky little gadget that makes your bathroom smell like burnt popcorn worth the dollars? We shall see… we shall see…

Friday is almost here, yay!

Today was a busy day… I photographed all of the Rocks! Sonic Eyes and Glam Glitter swatches to make new charts and eventually add them to the Shop by Color sections.

Our new “My Account” and “WIsh List” features have been up and running for a few weeks now and I just wanted to check in and see how it was working for everyone. Please feel free to comment!

In case you are not familiar with “My Account”, this is a new feature on our website which expands your shopping experience to allow the following features:

When you open an aromaleigh account, you’ll gain access to a full range of benefits including:

* Fast and easy checkout
* Store your billing and shipping info
* View previous orders
* Easily re-order from past orders
* Keep a list of your favorite products

I love the Wish List feature, and how you can easily keep individual color swatches of anything you’ve got a yen for!

Here’s an example! What’s on your WIsh List? Would you like more information on how to make the most out of this feature? Please let me know. I’d love to give you a tutorial.

Have a great Thursday everyone, it’s time for Miss K to clock out!

Shop by Color Section now Complete!!! Read on… May 7, 2008

Here’s a copy of our new Shop by Color webpage… a feature that Aromaleigh had a few years ago, but then we discontinued it when we had our website redesigned and some product changeups. Well, it is back by request and better than ever! No more toggling between product groupings, you can now see ALL of the pinks, or blues, or purples or whites!

Enjoy!

View our eyeshadows by color family. We have a plethora to choose from, so we’ve organized them by color groupings to make choosing easier!

c=cool, w=warm, n=neutral

See a color that you like? Just click on it and you will be taken to that color’s product grouping, where you can find it in that product’s drop-down menu and order samples or full sizes.

Happy Shopping!

Note: This section is under construction. Right now the color groupings consist only of Aromaleigh Mineral Cosmetics (our natural mineral cosmetics) and do not include Aromaleigh Rocks! Sonic Eyes or Rocks! Glam Glitters (our hybrid mineral eyeshadows and cosmetic glitters). We will be adding these in the near future at the bottom of each chart.

This is the last chart! Whew!!!

You can now visit the Shop by Color section in it’s completion. Rocks! Sonic Eyes and Rocks! Glam Glitters will be added soon. For now, if you see a color missing, you can let me know. But I am pretty sure that my eagle eyes got everything covered. However, being human, I am quite sure I may have missed something important! And we wouldn’t want that to happen! :)

Should I come out with the red, white and blue eyeshadow gift set to get us all through this year’s elections? :)

I’m eating this (very yummy, by the way… why doesn’t Jon Stewart have his own ice cream flavor?):

AmeriCone Dream Pint

I’m reading this (excellent read, by the way… highly recommend. Ron Paul fascinated me in the debates and this is quintessential.):

A Manifesto

I’m watching the results of today’s primaries, as Hillary and Obama fight for every last delegate and supah-delegate! (Hey, I voted for John Edwards. I still think he’s the man. But I’ll take Hillary. :) Sorry, I’ve never felt the Obama love. It’s either there or it isn’t. And here, it isn’t. So I pray for Clinton Superdelegates, while at home we argue about the electoral process being unconstitutional in our spare time… seriously… :) )

Charts get really complex in these color families and you’ll see some cross-over when I do the Brown & Buff Chart and the Peach & Earth shades.

To view the Shop by Color sections on the website, scroll to the bottom of the Left-Hand Navigation bar. It’s right at the very bottom (will be moved when section is completed). Or, just click HERE!

Enjoy!
